Back in action!

Wow, I didn't realize it had been that long since I last ran/walked, or posted. I did a few more attempts at the couch to 5k plan, never able to successfully do all of the running segments. Then life, injuries, and illnesses got in the way, and I didn't really do much walking.

I've started again today. Everyone was still asleep, so I didn't take time to get any gear, just put on my sneakers and headed out for about 15 minutes. Came back and checked my route on google maps. It said that it was .9 miles and about 16 minutes. I did run one tiny segment of it, so maybe that's where I picked up a minute.

I hope to stick with it this time. I know that I still need to work up to being about to do the running, but until then I'm going to try to incorporate some walking into every day. I also will try to do some Wii Fit -- I did some about 2 weeks ago, but went overboard with the aerobics section, and then my knee was sore.

I'm really going to try to stick with it this time. My oldest son has started asking about when we can go back to Walt Disney World again. It would be nice if in a few months I could tell him that I'm hoping to run in the half marathon there or something! (He has also started his own "vacation fund", after earning money babysitting over the weekend!)

Two miles down, 1255 to go!

For years I've been thinking that I should get in shape. Although I'm always on the go, I never get any actual exercise. This past semester I took a course called "Human Body in Health and Disease". I knew beforehand that things like hypertension and diabetes were bad, but after hearing exactly what all problems they can cause and why, I've decided that this is really my time to take better care of myself.

I'm starting with the Cool Running "Couch to 5K" plan. My older son is joining me. We did our first day yesterday. I couldn't even do the first half of the running sections, but was able to walk the entire distance. We're calling that "day 0", though, and will repeat day 1 tomorrow.

I've got a couple of goals to help mark my progress. The first is to accumulate the distance from my house in Wisconsin to Lake Buena Vista, FL (home of Walt Disney World, if you hadn't guessed!). It's 1257 miles from here to there, and I've now got two miles completed!

The second goal is to be in the Disney Half Marathon in 2012. I hope that by then I will be in good enough shape for it, and that we'll have enough money saved up to really make a nice trip of it.
